Tangled dreams
T293 is pleased to participate at Art Days - Napoli Campania through the project "Tangled Dreams" by Mia Weiner from October 19 to October 27, 2024.
In a historical moment marked by profound political and social divisions, artist Mia Weiner invites visitors to reflect on fundamental values such as tenderness, unity, and human connection through the exploration of the body and interpersonal relationships. Weiner addresses this reality not through direct narrative, but via a visual language that evokes moments of softness and secrecy, challenging the rigidity of contemporary life. The body becomes a site of emotional encounter and vulnerability, a refuge for exploration, play, and joy. These delicate moments find agency in humanity, connection and shared experience.
In her artistic process, Mia Weiner investigates the rich tapestry of human interactions, through textile portraits of people whose genders and faces are often concealed. “After dreaming of shapes, sensations, and colors, I photograph bodies that I choreograph in space. From these digital images, I begin to alter the composition, removing, modifying, and adding information.” The figures transform into timeless monuments, allowing for a fluid identification between the body of the viewer and that of the observed. They gaze at us, yet we cannot truly meet their eyes. “This is where our intellect resides. It is in our sight” the artist explains. “When the image seems ready, I deconstruct the photograph and create a map of how to weave it, coding and planning every intersection of each thread. For me, weaving has become a meditative act”.
Within the framework of the concept “La foresta di fili” for Art Days - Napoli Campania, Mia Weiner’s works convey a profound message: the fringes are not merely decorative elements, but vital nodes that invite the weaving of new relationships, where fragility transforms into a form of resistance.
