DateDecember 15, 2023 - January 27, 2024
T293 is delighted to show Elana Bowsher's "Inside Out" as part of the "Also On View" program. The exhibition showcases three works by Los Angeles-based artist, whose recent series of paintings delves into the enigmatic realm of the skeleton, blending the anatomical with the abstract.
Born in 1990 in San Francisco, CA, Elana Bowsher explores the human figure through the lens of the pelvic bones, offering a blend of anatomical interpretation and collective imaginary. In her paintings, the pearly white bones inhabit a mesmerizing environment, an ethereal fusion of primordial elements such as cellular structures and enigmatic sinews. Bowsher's compositions are meticulously crafted, presenting a tightly composed arrangement that evokes a sense of mystery and wonder. Inspired by the symbolic language of artists Hilma af Klint and Georgia O’ Keeffe, Bowsher’s luminescent formations of sinew and bone appear to twist through a primordial sea of exploded cells and molecules. A corporeal map, Bowsher’s work is also suggestive of more ancient symbols of healing and fertility, where the curve and spiral are part of a feminine domain of cycles, hopes, and desires.
