Biography
Effie Wanyi Li, is a sculptor and painter based in London, who explores body-mind relations. Through painting, she aims to visualize the subtle interactions and movements that occur within the physical space of the body, caused by intangible emotions and sensations. By capturing these nuances, she is willing to shed light on the complex interplay between actions and thouhgts, which is often overlooked or taken for granted. While observing these paintings, the viewers might contemplate their own bodily experiences and start a journey toward self-exploring. In her painting practice, Effie Wanyi Li strives to perceive subtle bodily sensations and emotional experiences, translating them into a visual space. She enters there in the form of consciousness, bringing out different spatial conditions and diverse landscapes experienced from varying distances and perspectives. Depending on the intensity of emotional experiences, her painting perspective shifts continuously. When emotions are particularly intense, body responses are easily triggered, drawing her observational perspective closer to the inner core. Conversely, when focusing on less noticeable body sensations in daily life, she gains a more comprehensive view of the internal space, also influenced by changes in the external environment. Each brushstroke in Effie Wanyi Li’s paintings whispers the story of a soul in transformation, capturing moments of vulnerability and strength. In her canvases the delicate interplay between mind and body is vividly brought to life. The viewer is gently invited to traverse these inner worlds, where blooming signifies not just growth, but a perpetual renewal, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
